FAQs:
Q: When does the season run?
A: Late-February to late-May. There will be opportunities to fall and winter season as well, but spring is main season.
Q: Does this conflict with baseball?
A: That depends when your baseball games are played. Many lacrosse players also play baseball. Practice days can vary (and coaches are flexible), and lacrosse games are played on Saturday mornings (K-2 boys, 3-4 girls) and Sunday mornings (K-2 girls, 3-4 boys, 5-6 boys). Games are approximately 45 minutes long. Please let us know so we can plan ahead and ensure our teams have adequate subs.
Q: What if my child has never played lacrosse before?
A: Many children are playing for the first time. You will be amazed at how fast they pick up the skill of scooping and throwing the ball.
Q: Will there be a highschool team?
A: That is one of our main goals. We will work tirelessly to get either a club or sanctioned OHSAA JV and Varsity High School Team within the next 3-5 years.
Q: I have never watched lacrosse, what is it like?
A: Imagine hockey, basketball, and soccer blended into one sport. It is fast paced, aggressive, and competitive. Most importantly, kids and parents love it. It is a great crossover sport for many others because it develops great eye-hand coordination, increases endurance, and teaches elusive moves to evade hits.
Q: How many games are there?
A: There will be approximately 10 games plus an all day tournament.
Q: How much will it cost?
A: We are still working this out. For K-6 boys and girls it will be about $100* plus equipment and jersey. *This fee includes membership to USA Lacrosse, which covers insurance and is required for all team lacrosse activities.
Q: What size stick should we get for our child?
A: For the most part all youth players should have a stick that’s 40-42” long. We do not encourage defensive players to use a long pole until they have mastered their footwork and positioning. I would recommend a “defense head” for beginning players. They are slightly wider than the “attack heads”. I would also recommend stiff mesh. Break in with a baseball ball until 3/4 of the ball is below the bottom of the sidewall (boys, girls sticks can not have a pocket…)

Q: What are the rules for girls sticks?
A: Depends on age group…. For 10U (¾ grades) and 8U, boys sticks can be used, but only half of the ball can be visible below the bottom of the sidewall. For older girls (12U), they must have a girls stick (it is different) and the ball must appear above the top rail. Watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kF44oWN1xGY
Q: What sticks do you recommend?
A: Depends on skill level… Generally, for beginners I would say to buy a used stick at Play-It-Again (ask for HYL 10% discount). Also, make sure the pocket mesh is not soft. If you want to buy new look at some of these:
